Streets of Atlantis has had their “eyes” on G Jones for awhile now and his progression as an artist is incredible. He is by far one of the best producers we have in the electronic music scene at the moment. We recommend this release, giving it 5 stars, and hope you don’t sleep on this gem.
Eyes is an audacious energy enhancer comprised of premium West Coast bass music, a swift collection of cross-genre experiments and dubbed-out sub bass monsters designed for the dance floor. Created by 21-year-old Santa Cruz producer G Jones, this playful EP illustrates the artist’s signature reverb style with bulbous basslines, pulverized vocals and unexpected adulterations of spaced-out sounds.
Starting the party off with an immediate knock and swerve, “Zig Zag” is a crunchy club track of playful colors that descends quickly into debauchery. “Vanishing Point” heaves with a hip hop snap and breathy growl, a loose cannon on a slow roll that smacks with G Jones’ finesse of empty space and gurgling bass. Expansive and melodious, the lush lead single “Stars” illuminates a magnificent vision, the ultimate summit of sound that releases the heavyweight energy of the EP like radio waves pulsing outward into the night.
Bold and unafraid, Eyes delivers a stimulating ride from a fresh perspective. G Jones has recently garnered attention from several highly acclaimed producers, with his beats appearing in mixes by Pretty Lights, Zeds Dead and DJ Shadow on BBC’s “Diplo and Friends” program. Touring heavily in Europe and hitting U.S. festivals like Burning Man and Symbiosis Gathering this summer, G Jones generates music dosed with an undeniable sense of freedom and fun.
